Teaching 21st Century Skills
We want to help students establish a foundation for the math that people use in real life. Students need to practice analytic and critical thinking skills. We also know that problems in real life are not easily solved and require perseverance. Learning mathematics is often compared with learning another language. We want our students to be able to interpret and communicate the universal language of mathematics. Therefore, we direct our teaching and activities to that end.
What students can expect from our math teachers:
We want all our students to be challenged and enjoy our classes. We know that studying mathematics is tough. We also know that all students benefit from learning mathematics, even if it's just a hurdle they have to get over to make it into college or the workforce. With a little patience and hard work, all students can learn mathematics. We pride ourselves in being available for our students before and after school. We don't give up on our students and we ask that students not give up either. As a department, we share ideas and teaching techniques so that we are constantly improving our lessons. We are constantly exploring new technologies and techniques that will help students visualize and communicate mathematics more clearly.
